About

The Teacher (Sifu)

Sifu Matthew Laurie has studied with the Tse Qigong Centre since 2001 and has been teaching since 2009. He is a senior student of Master Darryl Moy and trains regularly with his grand-teacher (Sigong) Grandmaster Michael Tse. Since joining the Centre, Sifu Laurie has learnt Wild Goose Qigong, Ip Man Wing Chun, Shaolin Chun Yuen Quan, Hard Qigong and Chen Style Taijiquan and has travelled to Hong Kong and China to train intensively.

“Meeting my teachers and learning the skills has changed my life. The most obvious benefits of practice are health and understanding self defence but for me, learning as a part of the Tse Qigong Centre goes much deeper. There is a lot of philosophy to the skills and this wisdom helped me to find new direction in life and to navigate through the difficult times in a positive way. Studying with the Centre also deepened my interest in meditation and the root of the skills taught. This led to an interest in Zen (Chan) Buddhism and Taoism which are now important guiding principles in my life. As Sifu and Sigong say, “Respect the skill, respect the teacher”… this wisdom has brought me a lot of joy.”

The Class

Class attracts people of different ages background and experience. Some students have just begun their Qigong or Wing Chun journey while others have been training for five years, ten years or even longer. This means that, as beginner, you will find other students that are at your level while also benefitting from the guidance offered by students with much greater experience who often help out in class.

Uniting as a class group is an important principle and this is even mentioned in the Wing Chun Ancestor Rules. When we get along well with our classmates then we find it easier to ask questions and get support, which in turn facilitates the learning and helps everyone get to a good level. Many students have attended on a weekly basis for a long time so valuable friendships can emerge from the class too.

As well as the ‘formal’ class times, we also meet up informally for class meals, kung fu movie days and walks in the Peak District.

The Centre

The Tse Qigong Centre was founded in 1990 by Grandmaster Michael Tse with the purpose of passing the qigong and martial arts skills to the next generation. Over 30 years later there are classes all over the world, with thousands of students having studied the authentic skills with qualified instructors.

As a member you are able to train with Grandmaster Tse and with any of the Centre's authorised instructors. You become part of a lineage which traces back to the original roots and source of the skills you learn. Not only will you have access to high-quality skill and tuition, but you will also be able to enjoy the following:

  • Classes & Seminars • Centre Polo shirt

  • Members Booklet • WhatsApp Group
